This is the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City. The cornerstone was laid in 1892, and it was under construction until the 1990s. Then the scaffolding remained until the summer of 2007 -- we were there in March 2007. I love the beauty of it, and how in this picture you can see a tiny sliver of scaffolding...a sign that it was indeed a work in progress.
